Migrating links and custom domains (for branded links) from Short.io to Fynlink is free, and will not count towards your monthly usage and charges!
Step 1: Get an API key from short.io
- Log in to short.io and select
Integrations & API
from the menu. Alternatively you can click on this link to directly go to the API page, after login. - Click on
Create API Key
button. A new modal will be opened, where you can customize your API key. - Provide a
key description
if required, and leave all other fields as it is. Click onCreate
button. A new API key will be generated. - Copy the generated
API key
and keep it somewhere secure, we will need it soon.
Step 2: Start migration
Before starting actual migration, make sure you have the right permission for the team. Only an Owner or Administrators of a team can perform this task.
- Log in to fyn.link and navigate to the
Links
page from the menu. Alternatively you can click on this link to directly go to theLinks
page, after login. - Next to the
Create Link
button, you can find a:
symbol. Click on it and then click onImport from Shortio
- A slider will be opened to the right. Enter the
API Key
that we created earlier, in the input box and click onContinue
. - Select all the domains you wish to import links for and click on
Import
button. We will also create the domain in our system for you, however you will need to manually addCNAME
record for the domain to work. This can be done after the import. - You can also select any of the advanced options that needs to be applied to your imported links. These options are designed for better privacy and security.
- The import may take some time depending on the number of links. The import works in the background, and you will be notified via email & our notification panel regarding the status of the import.
Step 3: Activate domains
- We will also import the domains associated with the links for you. You can find these domains in the
Pending Domains
section in theCustom Domains
page. You can access this from your teamOverview
page, or by clicking this link directly. - It is better to activate the domain once the import is finished. This will ensure minimum downtime for your short links. Once the domain is activated, you are free to remove your existing links from old shortening service.
- You will need to add a
CNAME
record for each of these imported domains to point tocname-fyn.link
in order to activate it. Learn more about adding CNAME record here. Once added, you can refresh status by clicking theRefresh
button.
